Oil and oil stick on canvas

132 x 172 cm

Fanny Brodar

Fanny Brodar

Fanny Brodar's art is a captivating fusion of the evocative 1970s and the dynamic essence of the 2000s. In her work, she skillfully intertwines fragments of cherished childhood memories, elements of contemporary pop culture, and visionary glimpses into the future, weaving an animated tapestry that intrigues and enchants. Her unique artistic language involves a brilliant interplay of vibrant colors, child-like marks, and whimsical scribbled words, effortlessly drawing viewers into a realm of nostalgia while provoking contemplation about the elusive line between reality and imagination.

At the heart of Fanny's art lies her endearing muppet-like characters, stemming from her personal journey to escape the traumas of her childhood. Each character embodies a kaleidoscope of emotions, mirroring the complexities of children navigating their inner worlds. Deeply inspired by child psychology, Fanny delves into profound themes, thoughtfully exploring the universal inclination of adults to conceal past hardships, cherishing memories that evoke joy and solace as a means of coping and growth.

Fanny Brodar's masterpieces transport spectators to an enchanting and magical world, reminiscent of her childhood bedroom that transformed effortlessly at her whims. Within her canvases, she deftly taps into viewers' reservoirs of nostalgic sentiments, skillfully employing a vibrant palette that seamlessly melds radiant hues with contrasting shadows, enhanced by the presence of enchanting cartoonish characters. This artistic alchemy creates an emotional tension that resonates deeply within her audience, forging an enduring connection with each unique piece.

In conclusion, Fanny Brodar’s extraordinary artistry reflects her profound journey as an illustrator, infused with a mesmerizing blend of influences from playful Japanese art and Rose Wylie's ingenuity. Her captivating muppet-like characters serve as conduits for a myriad of emotions, offering a glimpse into her personal odyssey from a traumatic past. With a profound understanding of the human psyche, Fanny deftly explores the resilience of human memory, artfully navigating the delicate balance between hardships and cherished recollections. Her faux naïf paintings open portals to an imaginative realm, captivating viewers with a delightful and emotional experience while prompting contemplation about the enigmatic realm of imagination and its intertwining with reality.

Renowned artist Zhisong Cai gained global acclaim representing China at the 2001 Venice Biennale and winning the Taylor Prize at the Paris Autumn Salon. In 2014, he received the First Rockefeller Outstanding Chinese Young Artist Award. Upholding the Chinese tradition of aesthetic symbols, Cai blends history, contemporary issues, and spirituality in a distinct personal style. His sculptures, embodying poetry and imagination, seamlessly combine tranquility with dynamism and tradition with modernity. The 'Homeland' series, initiated in 2016, interprets Eastern traditional culture through contemporary art, emphasizing literati spirit, human-nature connections, and profound life connotations. Three representative works showcase Cai's contemplative approach to contemporary issues and his yearning for peace, constructing utopian poetry within his sculptural pure land.

Hao Yun’s paintings use unique abstract forms outlined by contour lines to create specific shapes and surfaces, conveying a dual meaning of shape and life. The works represent abstract compositions of psychological scenarios, with a subdued color palette that reflects psychological factors and emotions. Symbols coexist with forms, with symbols being lifeless and forms possessing life. The relationship between masses and boundaries creates a conflict between life and its constraints. Human existence is the key to abstraction, and Hao Yun's works reveal his nature, intellect, and attitude toward life.

Mia Liu is a visual artist who lives and creates in Taipei. After receiving her B.F.A. from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2007, she enrolled in the M.F.A program, Hunter College of the City University of New York. Her works have been exhibited across major art museums and art spaces and collected by many throughout Europe, America, and Asia, including the Uli Sigg Collection (Switzerland) and the Emile Hermès Collection (Taiwan). She probes into art practices via an open, liberal status like drawing. Through the traverse and collision of various psychological and physical experiences in life with the things in contact in the moment, she catalyzes a series of creations in search of “dialogues,” producing poetic scenes where everything is connected. Hence, while it is as if she produces visual art in diverse forms, ranging from spatial installation to paper sculpture, drawing, photography, video installation, botanical sculpture, etc., Liu roams in the midst of and connects them as one.
