Series 2
Rorschach
Originating from the renowned psychological evaluation known as the "Rorschach Inkblot Test," developed by Swiss psychologist Hermann Rorschach, the "Rorschach" series embraces the seemingly haphazard inkblot patterns of the test. It portrays individuals existing in a state of detachment from reality, oscillating between realms of chaos and transcendence. Within this series, Rubenstein's "lines" cease to function as tools for distinguishing objects from their surrounding space in the paintings; instead, they serve a purpose steeped in self-expression, aesthetics, and organization.
This sense of purposefulness, akin to the strokes carrying the expressive and spiritual essence of the individual, transfers onto the canvas with a profound intensity that permeates the paper. Throughout this transformative journey, these strokes coalesce into profoundly cohesive gestures.
