Fanny Brodar

Fanny Brodar

Fanny Brodar's art is a captivating fusion of the evocative 1970s and the dynamic essence of the 2000s. In her work, she skillfully intertwines fragments of cherished childhood memories, elements of contemporary pop culture, and visionary glimpses into the future, weaving an animated tapestry that intrigues and enchants. Her unique artistic language involves a brilliant interplay of vibrant colors, child-like marks, and whimsical scribbled words, effortlessly drawing viewers into a realm of nostalgia while provoking contemplation about the elusive line between reality and imagination.

At the heart of Fanny's art lies her endearing muppet-like characters, stemming from her personal journey to escape the traumas of her childhood. Each character embodies a kaleidoscope of emotions, mirroring the complexities of children navigating their inner worlds. Deeply inspired by child psychology, Fanny delves into profound themes, thoughtfully exploring the universal inclination of adults to conceal past hardships, cherishing memories that evoke joy and solace as a means of coping and growth.

Fanny Brodar's masterpieces transport spectators to an enchanting and magical world, reminiscent of her childhood bedroom that transformed effortlessly at her whims. Within her canvases, she deftly taps into viewers' reservoirs of nostalgic sentiments, skillfully employing a vibrant palette that seamlessly melds radiant hues with contrasting shadows, enhanced by the presence of enchanting cartoonish characters. This artistic alchemy creates an emotional tension that resonates deeply within her audience, forging an enduring connection with each unique piece.

In conclusion, Fanny Bordar’s extraordinary artistry reflects her profound journey as an illustrator, infused with a mesmerizing blend of influences from playful Japanese art and Rose Wylie's ingenuity. Her captivating muppet-like characters serve as conduits for a myriad of emotions, offering a glimpse into her personal odyssey from a traumatic past. With a profound understanding of the human psyche, Fanny deftly explores the resilience of human memory, artfully navigating the delicate balance between hardships and cherished recollections. Her faux naïf paintings open portals to an imaginative realm, captivating viewers with a delightful and emotional experience while prompting contemplation about the enigmatic realm of imagination and its intertwining with reality.

69 x 52 x 123 cm

Cai Zhisong's works show profound humanistic values and concern for life, but they are mixed with Western-style modern language. He outlines the aura and demeanor of realistic forms with profound skills, and then gradually resets them to the modern context through rational deconstruction, and finally breaks the public's established concept of art with avant-garde and fashionable expressiveness.

Mr. Wing Gallery will presents for Art Taipei three pieces of sculptures form Cai’s “Homeland” series, which is the most critically acclaimed and highly recognized, in the meantime the most sought after by the art collectors among the artists’s resent practices.

Lin Hung-Hsin has been known for using realistic painting as the main form, but injected a strong subjective consciousness. At the same time, he has blended virtual spatial imagery, as well as personal experiences and delusions. The main body of the characters is an intricate self-projection, which is also the clone of the artist escaping from the real world. Through such surreal portraits, he attempts to change the visual experience and reading habits of the viewers, so as to resonate with them in different times and places.

Lin will create a new series of mix-media paintings for Art Taipei, which derives from his signature visual vocabulary of trying to mutate and split the boundary of images and painting. By analyzing himself more sincerely and profoundly, he conveys his inner perception of living dilemmas and environmental changes.

Constantly driven by a strong impulse, Lin Kuei-Hua’s artistic practice is free and diverse in various techniques she apply. Exclusively for Art Taipei, Lin has made the largest painting in her career, as well as a series of vivid and dynamic small-scale paintings. This batch of paintings is also the end to her "Relative Mimicry" series of 2022.

The concept of the work includes her observation, exploration and research on the group of characters, and produces an alternative composition on the canvas with vivid lines and colors. The initiative of the viewer's interpretation also allows the dynamic people under her brush to produce a three-dimensional statement in the two-dimensional space as if jumping out of the canvas. On her canvas, the characters and the space are interdependent, similar but also heterogeneous.

Born in New York and based in Los Angeles, Bruce Rubenstein has been creating art for over four decades. Starting his artistic journey as a young child, Rubenstein came to study art at Parson's School of Design, and became a member of the prestigious Art Students League located in New York City during the mid70s.

His formal training is imbued into even his most abstract works, which juxtapose sharp, precise brushwork with the contingent, irregular forms he is known for. Influenced primarily by the expressionist movement of the late 50s and early 60s, Rubenstein's work is overflowing with frenetic energy. It is through this process that he is able to create such uniquely energized works that juxtapose formality and abstraction, modernity and antiquity.

Matthew Stone is an artist and cultural provocateur who works across a number of disciplines, including painting, sculpture, photography, and performance. Following his graduation from the Camberwell College of Arts in 2004, Stone became a formative member of the !WOWOW! art collective.

Combining the idiosyncrasies of the artist's hand with the possibilities of digital manipulation, Stone's impressive figurative practice involves painting brushstrokes on clear glass, photographing them, recreating them using digital modeling software, and then printing them onto linen canvases.

Mr. Wing Gallery presents Stone’s latest nine pieces of AI painting that incorporate the AI system, DALL·E 2, into his work. Stone uses the innovative process to interpret his own paintings and produce material for new works. Through this cross-disciplinary practice, Stone challenges a narrative that unthinkingly divorces the analogue from the digital. Instead, he proposes that image making, analogue or digital, creates its own “virtual reality” for the viewer, that is dependent on the physical. Be it on a screen or canvas, hanging on the walls of a gallery, visual art creates illusionistic worlds. As such, in his own words, Stone commits to a “non-dualist position situated in the embodied materiality of both ‘digital’ and ‘physical’ realms.”

Born in Shanghai and raised during the Cultural Revolution in China, since 1982 Yan Pei-Ming lives and works in Dijon, France. Yan is the first batch of contemporary artists who left China to lives and works in France. He is also the third Chinese artist whose work has included in the permanent collection by the Pompidou Center of Paris. The dichotomy of both Western and Oriental experiences has contributed to shape the expressive style of the artist who, in over thirty years of his career, has emerged on the international arena as one of the most recognized figurative painters of our time. In his practice, Ming has paid homage to many great masters in the arts. Mr. Wing Gallery presents Yan’s iconic large-scale portrait painting, a highly colored portraits of Picasso.
